Also in the rivers around Las Lagunas is a fish known as Payara. Payara are known by many different names including::

• Saber Tooth Barracuda
• Vampire Fish
• Vampire Terra
• Saber Tusk Barracuda
  

These fish are a local delicacy of the natives and are also a popular aquarium fish around the world.

They get their name from the two large teeth that protrude from the lower jaw of the fish.
