Las Lagunas
Giant Peacock Bass
ABOUT
Erik & Ana Maria Sneidern
Erik von Sneidern and his wife Ana Maria are the owners/operators of Las Lagunas fishing camp. Erik, son of Kjell von Sneidern, who arrived to Colombia from Sweden in the beginning of 1940, started studying the birds of Colombia and in fact discovered 6 new birds that are under his name. Also Kjell was the pioneer of hunting and fishing in South America. The first camp opened was the Orinoco Ark that was based on the Mataveni River which flows to the Orinoco in the South eastern part of Colombia. Here is where many of the first peacock bass records were registered with the IGFA. Unfortunately Colombia became unsafe by the end of the 1980’s through 2010. Erik after operating pigeon hunting trips in Paraguay for over 15 years was able to reopen peacock bass/payara fishing operations in Colombia in 2016.
We have special agreements set up with the Colombian government and three sets of local Indian tribes giving us exclusive rights to fish a large section of the Inirida river and lagoons and we are expanding into new areas farther up the Inirida river.
